Working as a core member of our team in Romania, the Senior Naval Architect will work on naval architecture and structural engineering projects for our clients in the offshore Oil and Gas sector. This could include undertaking casualty, damage, load out and suitability surveys. You will also undertake document reviews and check designs and calculations for Marine Warranty Survey (MWS) projects.
What will you be doing?
- Prepare written expert reports and consultancy advice across a range of naval architecture fields.
- Conduct the supporting calculations and engineering analysis required for client reports.
- Contribute to Marine Warranty Survey (MWS) projects by reviewing and approving lifting, transportation and installation documentation.
- Prepare or review method statements, stability assessments, and strength checks.
- Interface with yards, vessel owners, contractors and join offshore or site operations as required.
- Provide senior technical leadership within the ABL Constanta office, ensuring quality and consistency.
- Provide a full range of naval architecture casualty and salvage support services in ongoing situations.
- Deliver reports and surveys within the timeframe, costs, HSE and quality standards established by ABL.
- Assist in growing the shipping business by seeking out new opportunities and securing new clients based on personal reputation in the market.
- Identify, prepare tender documentation and secure maritime consulting work for ABL.
- Assist in managing and mentoring naval architecture and engineering staff.
- Represent the interests of the ABL Group to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
- Comply with current revisions of ABL internal policies, procedures, guidelines at all times.
- Maintain responsibility and accountability for the Quality & HSE aspects within your region / department and projects.
What are we looking for?
Ideally, you will be a Naval Architect or Structural Engineer with proven experience of working on offshore structures and vessels within the Oil and Gas sector. More specifically, we are looking for the following:
- Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering or equivalent.
- 10 years’ professional experience in structural and naval engineering, and relevant expertise with offshore fixed and mobile structures
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards (such as DNV) and codes and the ability to apply standards to naval architectural analysis & designs.
- In-depth knowledge of class and statutory compliance frameworks.
- Experience of working on lifting design, rigging layouts, grillage, sea fastening, transportation analysis, hydrostatic strength and stability analysis.
- Experience of working on design and construction projects or ship repairs and upgrades.
- Knowledge of software such as FEMAP, NASTRAN and AutoCAD.
- Fluent in English.

This position will be based at our office in Constanta, Romania.
You must have the right to live and work in Romania.
The job holder will be required to travel and undertake some offshore attendances.
