What will you be doing?

As a Data Engineer, you will architect and build scalable data pipelines and governance frameworks from the ground up in a greenfield environment. You'll collaborate closely with our Group IT & Digital Team to unlock the power of unstructured data and drive our digital transformation. Your work will enable secure, AI-ready data platforms that fuel business intelligence and future innovation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines to extract data from various business systems.
  • Organize and classify data using ROT (Redundant, Obsolete, Trivial) analysis techniques.
  • Implement and manage data storage solutions using Microsoft Azure Files, SharePoint, and other Microsoft technologies.
  • Ensure data integrity, quality, and security across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights via Power BI dashboards and reports.
  • Support AI and machine learning initiatives by ensuring clean, well-structured, and accessible data.
  • Develop and enforce data governance policies and best practices.
  • Monitor and optimise data workflows for performance and cost-efficiency.

This role is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and requires the legal right to live and work in the country. You’ll occasionally travel to support regional offices and may need to work flexible hours to collaborate across time zones. Adaptability and cross-regional communication are key to success in this position.

What are we looking for?

To succeed in this role, you should have 2+ years of Data Engineering experience, ideally in greenfield or transformation projects, with strong expertise in Azure, Power BI, and ETL/data warehousing. Proficiency in data modelling, lifecycle management, and BI/AI integration is key. Certifications like DP-203 or PL-300 and experience in the marine or energy sector are desirable. In addition, you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Analytics or equivalent.
  • 2+ years’ experience as a Data Engineer with experience in development and maintenance support.
  • Experience in greenfield or transformation projects.
  • Experience in a projects focused on Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, Big Data or Analytics projects. 

Competencies and capabilities:

  • Expert level proficiency in Microsoft technologies: Azure (Data Factory, Files, Synapse), SharePoint, Power BI.
  • Strong understanding of data analysis, statistical methods, and data visualisation tools (Power BI).
  • ETL, Data engineering and scripting
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft technologies: Azure (Data Factory, Files, Synapse), SharePoint, Power BI.
  • Experience with data modelling, ETL processes, and data warehousing.
  • Familiarity with ROT analysis and data lifecycle management.
  • Understanding of AI/ML data requirements and integration.
  • Strong project management skills and adaptability to new technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of data security, privacy, and compliance standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
