Working as a core member of our team in the Americas, you will undertake maritime hull and machinery surveying assignments. This could include investigating machinery failure, collision damage, casualty incidents, or surveying a vessel prior to a sale or lease. Flexibility with working hours is required for this position as the job holder will be expected to attend casualty investigations as and when they occur.

What will you be doing?

  • Carry out loss prevention and Marine Warranty Surveys (MWS). 
  • Perform surveys of vessels in casualty or pre-risk situations.
  • Attend casualties and determine nature, extent, and cause of damage.
  • Physically attend inspections at shipyards for risk assessments and planning of repairs.
  • Estimate costs of repairs and subsequently compile reports for clients.
  • Assist in the preparation of tenders and proposals in relation to maritime business.
  • Maintain familiarisation with all aspects of ABL Maritime services and key deliverables.
  • Ensure all operations, deliverables and quality of reports are in accordance with approved instructions, and ABL procedures and policies.
  • Responsible for delivery of quality documents within a timeline established by management and client.
  • Abide by specific internally established control systems and authorities and ensure adherence to all relevant internal QHSE policies and procedures. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

What are we looking for?

Ideally, you will possess a Chief Engineer STCW III/2 qualification, or relevant academic (e.g, a BEng in Engineering) and practical experience. More specifically, we are looking for the following: 

  • Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in marine surveying.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of repairing ship structures, machinery, failure investigation, vessel salvage and ship technical management.
  • Physically able to attend client site, climb ladders, enter dry docks / confined spaces. You must be able to travel to site.
  • Solid understanding of marine casualty investigation process.
  • ISM Auditor Qualifications, fleet technical management experience and seagoing experience is desirable.
