Consultant Marine Surveyor

Working as a core member of our ABL team in Aberdeen, you will undertake a wide range of vessel surveys and marine consultancy projects. This could include advising on marine engineering projects, performing Hull and Machinery surveys on behalf of a P&I club, or undertaking Marine Warranty Surveys (MWS) for our clients working on offshore transportation and installation projects.
What will you be doing?
- Carry out condition and suitability, pre-purchase, on / off hire, layup and reactivation surveys, and more, onboard our clients' vessels.
- Undertake Hull and Machinery surveys and estimate the cost of repairs for our clients.
- Take part in technical and procedural reviews and marine study reports covering Marine and Offshore projects.
- Assist with preparation of tenders and proposals for offshore MWS, marine assurance and other related offshore projects.
- Evaluate operational risks and assess the feasibility of Marine operations by undertaking technical review of onsite specifications.
- Contribute to the development and safe execution of the Marine and Offshore operations.
- Ensure all operations are conducted in full compliance with approved instructions, procedures, and policies.
- Ensure that optimum solutions are provided to our clients within the agreed timeframe, costs and quality standards.
- Responsible for delivery of quality documents within a timeline established by management and our clients.
- Liaise with our clients to ensure project completion and customer satisfaction.
- Provide training, mentoring and motivation to colleagues.
What are we looking for?
Ideally, you will be qualified Chief Engineer, Second Engineer (STCW III/2) or Master Mariner (STCW II/2) with proven experience of working on offshore vessels. Experience working for a marine consultancy like us is desirable but this position is also suitable for someone who is looking to transition into a shore-based position. More specifically, we are looking for the following:
- At least 7 years’ relevant experience within the Marine or Offshore industry.
- Practical knowledge and experience in vessel dry dockings, machinery damage, and repairs.
- Exposure to marine warranty, vessel and asset inspections, audits, rig moves, damage surveys and project management is a significant advantage.
- ISM, OVID or e-CMID accreditation is desirable.
- Experience with Marine Insurance, P&I and serving onboard Jack Up or semi-submersible rigs is desirable.
Further Information:
This position will be based at our office in Aberdeen, Scotland.
You must live within reasonable commuting distance of our Aberdeen office.
You must have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom.
The job holder will be expected to undertake frequent onshore and offshore client assignments, both locally and abroad.
