Working as a core member of our team in Rotterdam, you will undertake vessel surveys and provide maritime consultancy services to our clients. You could be performing surveys on a range of ships, such as offshore, passenger, or cargo vessels. The job holder will be expected to travel to locations across the Netherlands, northern Germany, Belgium and northern France, particularly at short notice, to undertake surveys. 

What will you be doing?

  • Carry out a range of surveys and feasibility studies such as pre-purchase or hire, condition surveys, and more, on behalf of P&I clubs or ship owners or charterers. 
  • Attend maritime casualty investigations and determine the nature, extent and cause of damage.
  • Estimate the costs of repairs for damages and subsequently compile reports for our clients. 
  • Undertake administration of survey and consultancy documents and ensure timely notification of findings to our clients. 
  • Contribute to business development activities with the aim of promoting ABL Group to both local and international clients.
  • Ensure that your own level of billable utilisation remains above 60%.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a certified Master Mariner (STCW II/2) or Chief Engineer (STCW III/2) with at least 10 years’ experience within the Offshore or Maritime sectors. This position is suitable for an experienced Surveyor or someone who is looking to transition into a shore-based position. More specifically, we are looking for the following:

  • Relevant offshore or seagoing experience. 
  • Broad exposure to Hull and Machinery (H&M), P&I claims, and general marine consultancy.
  • Exposure to warranty consultancy, inspections, audits, and general surveys is an advantage.
  • Experience of writing technical reports and undertaking client facing activities is an advantage. 

Further Information:

This position will be based at our office in Rotterdam. You must have the legal right to live and work in the Netherlands.

Due to the nature of the position, it is advisable for the job holder to live within a 50-kilometre radius of Rotterdam. 

The job holder will be expected to undertake onshore and offshore client assignments, often at short notice. You will also be expected to provide weekend cover on occasions.
