We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Subsea Cable Installation Engineer to join our dynamic team. If you have a passion for offshore wind farm and other submarine cable and other ocean engineering / hydrodynamic analysis projects globally, we encourage you to apply.

What will you be doing?

As a Subsea Cable Installation Engineer, you may involve working on several projects simultaneously and will suit an ambitious and progressive consultant engineer who is able to work under his/her own initiative. In addition, you will also: 

  • Primary duties in these projects will involve any or all:
    1. Cable lay installation and repair analysis
    2. Cable route engineering, planning, and cable burial risk assessment works
    3. Cable route survey management and supervision 
    4. Cable installation, burial and protection studies
    5. Landfall appraisal technical studies 
    6. Detailed analyses of cable related issues, typical examples being scour assessment or cable failures
    7. Cable procurement technical documentation
    8. Cable Package Management assignments
  • In addition, the candidate will be expected to:
    1. Assist preparing tenders and proposals.
    2. Support in preparation and delivery of marketing presentations to prospective clients.
    3. Collaborate with other disciplines and team members across the ABL Group
    4. Attend internal meetings and external / third party meetings as required.
    5. Assist in keeping projects on budget and on schedule. 
    6. Ensure all deliverables are conducted in full compliance with approved instructions, procedures and policies. 
    7. Maintain a consistently high degree of quality and technical excellence in all work produced.

 The position will be based in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam and you must have the right to live and work in Vietnam. The role is office based with flexibility to working hours. Occasional onsite attendance may be expected.

What are we looking for?

To excel in this position, you will be a highly technical engineer. Additionally, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geophysical Science or similar
  • Knowledge of the energy industry.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a relevant field such as Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geophysical Science or similar
  • Exposure to engineering consultancy.
  • Proficiency/knowledge of OrcaFlex
  • Technical knowledge of development, construction and operational phase(s) of renewable projects.
  • Project commercial acumen
  • Ability to establish client relationships.
  • Ability to project balance competing priorities
  • Excellent report writing skill.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office package
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written). 
  • Good interpersonal skills, a strong team player with a proactive approach.
  • Outgoing, pragmatic, with a positive attitude.
  • Attention to detail and high level of numerical accuracy.
  • Well organised, self-directed & insightful.

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree in a similar field
  • Project management qualification
  • Training course in marine engineering or similar field if not part of primary university education
  • Experience with subsea cables projects
  • Experience with geoscience studies and terminology.
  • Experience in the construction and operational phases of offshore energy projects.
  • Experience with renewable energy.
  • Experience in interfaces with onshore civils and electrical aspects related to cables.
  • Experience in conducting technical due diligence and lender’s technical advisor assignments.
  • Knowledge of cable route engineering procedures and feasibility desk top studies
  • Knowledge of cable landing techniques (HDD and open cut trenching)
  • Knowledge of cable burial and protection 
  • Knowledge of submarine cable transport and installation engineering
  • Knowledge of geoscience and related terminology
  • Understanding of technical and commercial aspects of renewable energy infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of dynamic cables for floating offshore wind applications 
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS
  • Proficiency in other languages is an advantage.
