Be the energy behind change. Join ABL Group.

ABL Group is a leading global independent energy and marine consultant working in energy and oceans to de-risk and drive the energy transition across the renewables, maritime, and oil and gas sectors, offering the deepest pool of expertise across marine and engineering disciplines in more than 300 locations globally.

As a core member of our South Florida team, you will be at the forefront of ABL’s marine and yacht consultancy work across North America. This role places you in the middle of diverse, highimpact surveying assignments, ranging from commercial shipping and offshore assets to some of the worlds most advanced and prestigious yachts. Youll investigate casualties, assess vessels and shipyards, support complex claims, and contribute your expertise to major projects involving globally recognized clients.

Working within ABL’s multidisciplinary network of master mariners, engineers, naval architects, and casualty specialists, you’ll play a key role in delivering independent, trusted technical insight. Many assignments will require rapid response, both shoreside and at sea, offering the opportunity to take on challenging and meaningful work in a dynamic environment while helping grow ABL’s presence in the region.

What will you be doing?

  • Support marine and yacht surveying and consultancy work across commercial vessels, offshore assets, and highvalue yachts.
  • Assist with inspections, audits, and attendances on behalf of H&M, P&I, cargo underwriters, owners, charterers, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in casualty investigations, machinery/structural damage assessments, and condition evaluations under the guidance of senior surveyors.
  • Contribute to shipyard attendances for repairs, refits, and condition surveys.
  • Help estimate repair scope, costs, and timelines.
  • Produce clear, wellstructured technical reports with support and review from senior colleagues.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary ABL teams regionally and globally.
  • Support business development and relationshipbuilding activities as your experience grows.
  • Contribute to the continued growth of ABL’s marine and yacht practice in South Florida and North America.
  • Maintain billable utilization targets while upholding ABL’s operational, quality, and QHSE standards.

What are we looking for?

Ideally, you will have seagoing experience as a deck or engineering office (e.g, STCW II/1, III/2), or a degree or technical training in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Marine Surveying, or a related marine discipline. A background as a junior surveyor, technical assistant, shipyard engineer, or superintendent is beneficial. More specifically, we are looking for the following:

  • 2–5+ years of relevant experience in seagoing roles, shipyard work, marine engineering, yacht operations, or early-stage surveying.
  • Exposure to commercial vessels, offshore support vessels, or large yachts, with a mix being preferred but not essential. Training will be provided.
  • Foundational understanding of ship systems, machinery, structures, or yacht construction.
  • Interest in developing skills in casualty response, condition assessment, and damage evaluation.
  • Ability to produce clear written documentation; strong report-writing potential.
  • Familiarity with Class rules, statutory requirements, or industry codes is advantageous.
  • Experience with audits (ISM/ISPS/MLC) is desirable but not required. Training can be provided.
