The Principal Electrical Consultant will lead and deliver Owner’s Engineer (OE) services across a wide range of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar PV and battery energy storage systems. This role provides technical leadership on electrical, grid and SCADA matters, advising clients on complex aspects of electrical design, construction and commissioning. You will coordinate resources within the electrical team to ensure OE activities are delivered to the highest standard, while also providing technical oversight, mentoring and training to more junior colleagues. 

What will you be doing?

  • Lead electrical, grid and SCADA Owner’s Engineer (OE) activities on renewable energy projects within the OWC electrical team.
  • Coordinate internal and external electrical resources to deliver OE obligations efficiently.
  • Lead or support construction and commissioning site visits, coordinating internal staff and freelance specialists as required.
  • Assist with or lead project management for OE assignments, depending on project needs.
  • Act as a recognised electrical subjectmatter expert, sharing knowledge and supporting capability building across OWC.
  • Contribute to tenders and proposals.
  • Maintain responsibility for project budgets, schedules and delivery milestones.
  • Attend internal, client and thirdparty meetings as required.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply fully with approved procedures, instructions and policies.
  • Uphold high standards of technical quality and excellence across all outputs.

What are we looking for?

  • Educated to degree level in Electrical Engineering with at least 6 – 8 years’ worth of relevant professional experience. 
  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience of renewable energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of the GB grid connection process and associated policy framework.
  • Commercial awareness, with the ability to advise clients on contractual and delivery considerations.
  • Proven business development and project management capability.
  • On-site construction experience, including witnessing and commissioning at substations and generation sites is beneficial. 
  • Understanding of project finance and M&A markets is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of protection systems, earthing, building services, and SCADA is beneficial.
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution is desirable.
  • CSCS, EUSR SHEA Power or Safety Passport certification are desirable.
