You will be responsible for the day-to-do running and strategic development of ABL Group’s Maritime business line within Europe and West Africa. Working with your team of Engineers and Consultants, you will ensure that ABL Group provides best-in-class Maritime advisory and survey services. Additionally, you will be expected to undertake some chargeable projects.
What will you be doing?
- Grow and develop the Maritime business across the Region, supported by the Country Managers and the Global Maritime Managing Director.
- Develop existing and new client relationships through direct contact, identify opportunities and where appropriate introduce new services.
- Hold responsibility for the delivery of the P&L for the ABL England Maritime business.
- Directly manage the England Maritime team and report to the ABL England Country Manager for its delivery and performance.
- Ensure the gross revenue and gross margin of the regional maritime business is effectively monitored and managed.
- Plan execution of projects including scope, deliverables and schedule manpower resources. You will oversee progress and provide regular reports.
- Prepare and instigate annual financial budgets focusing on revenues and costs for ABL England.
- Undertake case handling of specific contentious cases and maintain customer satisfaction.
- Undertake own chargeable time.
- Ensure all operations, deliverables and quality of reports are in accordance with approved instructions, and ABL procedures and policies.
- Provide training, lead, motivate and grow the existing marine team.
- Develop budgets, pricing and quotations for new projects.
- Undertake quality assurance and report reviews. You will implement and continuously improve work processes to deliver excellence.
- Be accountable for all the Quality & HSE aspects within your business segment and promote QHSE related activities within all operations.
The position will be based at our London office. Short notice travel both globally and locally for periods of time will be required to support our projects and clients.
What are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will be either a Master Mariner (STCW II/2) or Chief Engineer (STCW III/2) with proven marine consultancy and surveying experience, preferably with expert witness and legal experience. We would also like to hear from candidates who have relevant industry and market experience. More specifically, we are looking for the following:
- At least 15 years relevant experience within the Marine Consultancy industry or strong relevant alternative experience.
- Strong track record in Expert Witness, Consulting, Marine Management, H&M and / or P&I matters.
- Good decision-making capability with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, strong leadership ability and be able to deal effectively with multiple issues and assignments simultaneously.
- Command or Chief Engineer, or experience as a Salvage Master, SCR, or Marine Pilot, is desirable.
- Experience of authoring expert opinion reports, giving expert testimony, and being cross examined is beneficial.
