We have an exciting opportunity for a Marine Surveyor to join our team of Maritime experts in a wide variety of consultancy work.

What you will be doing

As our Marine Surveyor, you will be involved in a wide range of work including but not limited to vessel surveys of all types, accident investigation, expert witness and litigation support, desktop consultancy projects, and risk assessments. You could be involved in all or some of the following:

Attend onboard vessels to carry out surveys on behalf of clients, including but not limited to:

  • Condition and Suitability surveys

  • Hull & Machinery surveys

  • Pre-purchase surveys

  • On / Off Hire surveys

  • Industry standard audits (OVID, CMID, etc.)

  • Layup & reactivation surveys

  • Attend casualties and determine the nature, extent, and cause of damage

  • Estimate repair costs and compile technical reports for clients

  • Assist in business development activities including the promotion of ABL Maritime and its services

The role is based in Rotterdam, and candidates must live within the region between Amsterdam and Vlissingen. You must already have the right to live and work in the Netherlands. Fluency in both Dutch and English is essential – with a strong command of written English required for reporting purposes. Please note: visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Flexibility and willingness to travel for onshore/offshore assignments at short notice—both locally and globally—is expected.

What we are looking for

We are seeking driven and solution-oriented professionals with sound technical skills and decision-making capabilities. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrate strong leadership, and be capable of handling multiple priorities effectively.

Required:

  • Qualified Chief Engineer (STCW III/2) or Master Mariner (STCW II/2) – this is the minimum requirement

  • Practical knowledge and experience in vessel dry dockings, machinery damage, and repairs

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English

  • Valid EU driving license

  • Right to live and work in the Netherlands 

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Previous consultancy experience or 10+ years sea-going experience

  • Technical Ship Management background

  • Experience in Marine Insurance and Admiralty Law

  • OVID and/or CMID surveyor qualifications

  • Dynamic Positioning qualifications

  • Familiarity with marine and engineering consultancy in offshore oil and gas markets
